1| STATE OF OKLAHOMA | | | 2| 1st Session of the 59th Legislature (2023) | | | 3|HOUSE BILL 1883 By: Waldron | | | 4| | | | 5| | | | 6| AS INTRODUCED | | | 7| An Act relating to teacher compensation; providing | | for increase in compensation of classroom teachers; | 8| prescribing amount of increase; providing increase as | | additional to certain other compensation and fringe | 9| benefits; defining term; providing for codification; | | providing an effective date; and declaring an | 10| emergency. | | | 11| | | | 12| | | | 13|BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: | | | 14| SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified | | | 15|in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 18-114.15 of Title 70, unless | | | 16|there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows: | | | 17| A. Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, each school | | | 18|district shall provide to every classroom teacher a salary increase | | | 19|of twenty percent (20%) over the base amount the employee earned | | | 20|during the 2022-2023 school year if the classroom teacher is | | | 21|employed by the same school district for the 2023-2024 school year. | | | 22|If a classroom teacher is a new employee of the school district, his | | | 23|or her starting salary shall be a twenty-percent increase from the | | | 24| | | | Req. 1|starting salary for the same position during the 2022-2023 school | | | 2|year. | | | 3| B. The increase prescribed by this section shall be in addition | | | 4|to any other compensation, increase in compensation, and fringe | | | 5|benefits provided by the school district or state, or mandated by | | | 6|law or collective bargaining agreement, unless the hours or duties | | | 7|of the classroom teacher are reduced proportionately. | | | 8| C. For purposes of this section, "classroom teacher" means a | | | 9|teacher as defined in paragraph 1 of Section 1-116 of Title 70 of | | | 10|the Oklahoma Statutes, except for superintendents as defined in | | | 11|paragraph 2 of Section 1-116 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes. | | | 12| SECTION 2. This act shall become effective July 1, 2023. | | | 13| SECTION 3.
