3| "An Act relating to teachers; requiring certain |
| teachers who take and pass certain examination to be |
4| reimbursed certain amount; amending 70 O.S. 2021, |
| Section 6-106.1, which relates to mentor teacher |
5| stipends; directing the allocation of funds to school |
| districts for certain purpose; directing a mentor |
6| teacher to provide certain support to certain |
| teachers; providing for codification; providing an |
7| effective date; and declaring an emergency. |

10|BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: |
| |
11| SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified |
| |
12|in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 6-101.9 of Title 70, unless |
| |
13|there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows: |
| |
14| A teacher who is certified pursuant to Section 6-122.3 or 6-187 |
| |
15|of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes and who, at the request of the |
| |
16|employing school district, takes and passes a subject area |
| |
17|competency examination required by Section 6-187 of Title 70 of the |
| |
18|Oklahoma Statutes to earn certification and teach an additional |
| |
19|subject in the school district shall be reimbursed by the school |
| |
20|district. The reimbursement shall be an amount equal to the cost of |
| |
21|the subject area competency examination. |
| |
22| SECTION 2. AMENDATORY 70 O.S. 2021, Section 6-106.1, is |
| |
23|amended to read as follows: |

1| Section 6-106.1. If funds are appropriated to the A. The State |

2|Board of Education shall allocate funds to school districts for |
| |
3|Mentor Teacher Stipends, the. The funds shall be distributed by the |
| |
4|Board to the school districts to provide a stipend of not more than |
| |
5|Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) per year for each mentor teacher as |
| |
6|defined in Section 6-182 of this title. In addition to the |
| |
7|distribution of the five-hundred-dollar stipend, each district shall |
| |
8|also receive the district's contribution amount necessary to meet |
| |
9|the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (F.I.C.A.) requirements. |
| |
10| B. A mentor teacher shall provide guidance, support, coaching, |
| |
11|and assistance to a teacher in his or her first year of teaching at |
| |
12|an employing school district, regardless of the length of time the |
| |
13|teacher has been certified. |
| |
14| SECTION 3. This act shall become effective July 1, 2023. |
| |
15| SECTION 4. It being immediately necessary for the preservation |
| |
16|of the public peace, health, or safety, an emergency is hereby |
| |
17|declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and |
| |
18|be in full force from and after its passage and approval." |
