Dave Rader, R-Tulsa, restores existing law which prohibits schools from using corporal punishment on students with the most significant cognitive disabilities, as defined by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE), unless otherwise allowed in an IEP. The amendment does not restore the ability of a parent to waive this prohibition.

Paraphrase: SB0126, by Sen. David Bullard, R-Durant and Rep. Sherrie Conley, R-Newcastle, requires an arresting law enforcement agency to notify the superintendent of the school district or public school in which a student is enrolled if in the course of an arrest for a violent crime it is discovered that the person being arrested is a student of a school district or public school. The bill requires the notification and any information regarding the adjudication of the student be conducted with due regard to the statutory provisions regarding the confidentiality of juvenile. It requires the information be kept as part of the student's permanent records and included in the records provided to a receiving district due to a student transfer conducted pursuant to the Education Open Transfer Act. The bill requires a student's parent or legal guardian to notify the school if the student has been arrested for a violent crime, beginning with the 2023-2024 school year and prior to enrollment.
