Marcus McEntire, R-Duncan, permits Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) recognized as Certified Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse-Midwives, or Clinical Nurse Specialists to prescribe drugs independent of physician supervision after completing a minimum of 2,000 hours of practice with supervised prescriptive authority. The bill requires the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, and the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners to establish a uniform set of rules governing the supervision of APRNs. It requires the rules outline supervision requirements for APRNs who have not obtained independent prescriptive authority, including setting reasonable limits on the monetary fees that supervising physicians can charge APRNs for their supervision services.
